Modern car theft is quiet, fast and industrialized. The dominant method against keyless cars — the relay attack — needs two people, a €200 gadget and under 60 seconds: one stands near your front door amplifying your key fob's signal, the other opens and starts your car with it. No glass, no alarm, no trace.
Police recovery data across Europe keeps pointing to the same conclusion: no single device stops theft, but layers change the economics. Thieves pick easy targets; every layer you add sends them to the next car. Here is the four-layer system, from cheapest to smartest.
Layer 1 — Deter: make them walk past (visible, mechanical)
Old-school and still devastatingly effective, because it attacks the thief's scarcest resource: time. FAQ
Can't a thief just unplug the OBD tracker? They'd need to know it's there and find the port (often hidden). The moment it's unplugged you get an alert with the last position — which is exactly the information the police need first.
Do trackers affect the car's electronics or warranty? No — the OBD port is a standardized read interface; the tracker draws trivial power and writes nothing.
